Thrown Away

Eski were commissioned by Hull City Council and Stagecoach to gain insights into why children and young people within specific hotspot areas were using stones and bricks to attack public transport and co-produce an intervention to reduce incidences.

In addition to consulting with specialists and people with lived experiences, along with the support of youth services, youth justice and education we facilitated discussions with children and young people to understand the driving factors and what, if anything, could be done to prevent and disrupt this dangerous behaviour.

Based on real events, “Thrown Away” is a short film produced that shows the impact an impulsive and reckless act has on passengers of the bus, the driver and repercussions on the offender whose friends do not stand by as he faces the consequences of his actions.

The film has been screened in schools by teachers and PCSOs as part of an ongoing strategy to reduce anti-social behaviour and crime amongst young people. This is supported by work around positive alternatives and healthy risk-taking behaviours amongst children and young people.

Warning: Thrown Away contains a dark subject matter and suggestions of violence
that some viewers might find disturbing. We strongly suggest that this film be viewed by an adult in advance and that young people are supported if affected by any of the scenes in this film.
